Adverbs

An adverb tells us more about the verb.

It tells us HOW, WHEN and WHERE an action takes place. It ADDS more to the verb.

Just for the moment we are going to concentrate on the HOW adverbs. These are easy to recognise as most of them end in 'ly'

Example -  The boy ran quickly in the race.

How did the boy run? He ran quickly.

'quickly' is an adverb.

Have a look at the PowerPoint below before starting your task.

More on Adverbs

On Tuesday you will continue to look at adverbs.

For some words you just add 'ly' eg sad=sadly.

If a word has a silent 'e', you still just add 'ly'

e.g love=lovely

However, if a word ends in'y', you must change the y to an'i' and then add 'ly'

e.g busy=busily

Have a look at the PowerPoint below before you try the activity today when you will need to find/identify the the adverbs in a small paragraph.

Adverbs - the next step

A Little bit Further with Adverbs

On Wednesday we will continue to look at adverbs.

We are now going to add in the where and the when adverbs.

For example

Freddie sang loudly (how)

Freddie sang yesterday (when)

Freddie sang outside (where)

Before you start your activity today have a go at the quiz below.

Please take your time with the first activity today as it is a little tricky.

Once you have completed your task you can move onto the extension -

I would like you to have a look at the 'adverb' pod I have created on Studyladder.

Mixed Bag - Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives and Adverbs

Recently we have been revising our parts of speech (noun, verb, adjectives) and this week we have also looked at adverbs.

On Thursday, I’d like you to try to make sentences which include all of these 4 parts of speech in them. Write your 3/4 sentences in your work book.

It would would be great if you could colour code your sentences. It can be a little tricky to decide sometimes, so please have a go at the quiz below before you start the activity.

Listen carefully to the Seesaw video before you begin the task.

When you are completing the task take your time before deciding which colour a word should be and most importantly have fun with it!

RELAX AND READ

I would like you to finish off your literacy this week with some reading.

I can't believe how cold it is outside!

It is the perfect time to grab a blanket and get cosy while enjoying a good book!
