Country project details and research areas

Your task is to complete a project on a country of your choice. It could be a country you used to live in; a country your family is from; a country you have visited on holiday; or a country that you just want to know a bit more about - the choice is yours!

 

You will need to use the internet and any books/magazines that you have at home to help you. Your project can be handwritten, or you can use a computer to present it in Word or Powerpoint etc.

 

Your project needs to be well presented and full of interesting and accurate information. You should include text and graphics (pictures, drawings, photos etc.)  DO NOT just copy and paste from the internet - everything you write should be in your own words. 

 

Remember - take your time and always do your BEST work!  We hope you find this project interesting and enjoyable!

You should include the following information in your project:

1. Location (1 - 2 pages)

Begin by explaining which country you have chosen and why. You will also need to include some maps in this section (2 minimum.) One map should show where your country is in the world and the other needs to be a larger and more detailed map of your country. You can use an atlas, the internet, reference books etc. 

 

2. Fleg (1 page)

In this section, you should draw or print an image of your country's flag. Then write a bit about the flag's history and meaning. 

 

3. Fascinating Facts.

You need to include some interesting facts about your country. These could include:

  • Capital city
  • The currency (money) used there
  • The longest river, largest lake or highest mountain
  • The size of your country
  • Other countries that border your country
  • Seas and oceans that surround your country   etc....

 

4. History and Famous people (1+ pages)

  • Find out about the history of your chosen country e.g. important dates / kings and queens / presidents / wars / inventions / Olympic Games etc. You may decide to include a timeline.
  • Does your country have a patron saint? E.g. St. George for England or St. Patrick for Ireland. Try to find out their story.
  • Which famous people come from your country? These could be celebrities, sportspeople, artists, musicians, inventors, scientists, explorers, religious figures etc. 

 

5. Weather (1-2 pages)

  • What is your country's weather like? Is it hot/cold all year round or is it seasonal, with changes in spring, summer, autumn and winter?
  • How does the weather affect the people who live there?
  • You could find information and/or graphs about things such as the average monthly rainfall and average hours of daylight etc.

 

6. Customs, traditions and celebrations (1+ pages)

  • What customs and traditions are kept in your country?
  • What are the main religions?
  • Are there any special celebrations? (E.g. Chinese New Year, Diwali, Independence Day, Saints' days etc. How are they celebrated?

 

7. Food and Drink (1+ pages)

Find out if your country has a traditional dish and draw a labelled diagram of it. What type of foods and drinks are popular in your country? Think about how you could display this information in your project. You might like to write, draw, make a collage, include recipes etc.

 

8. Dress (1-2 pages)

Here, you should explain what people usually wear in your chosen country and why. (Is it for climate, traditional or religious reasons?) Maybe you could find out what is fashionable in your chosen country at the moment. Does your country have traditional costumes?

 

9. School (1-2 pages)

Find out what school is like in your chosen country. What is similar and different to your own experiences of school? Here are some points to consider:

  • Do all children go to school?
  • How do they travel to school?
  • What times / days do children go to school?
  • What lessons do they have?
  • How many in a class?

 

10. Animals

Does your country have a national animal? Are there any animals that your country is famous for? E.g. Australia is well-known for kangaroos and koalas.

 

11. Sport and Entertainment

  • What sports are popular in your country?
  • Is there a national sport?
  • What type of music is popular?
  • Are there any famous music stars from your country?
  • What do people in your country like to do in their spare time?

 

12. Famous Visitor Attractions

  • Are there any famous places in your country?
  • Where do tourists like to visit?
  • You could include historical and important buildings; natural places such as waterfalls and nature reserves etc. 

 

13. Other Information

If there is any other information about your chosen country that you would like to add to your project you may include it here. E.g. one possible example could be interesting or strange laws!
