PDMU (Personal Development and Mutual Understanding)

PDMU

Personal Development and Mutual Understanding is an important part of our curriculum. PDMU is linked to all aspects of life and work in school, flowing through activities and discussions in class, to learning how to interact with others out in the playground. It is concerned with establishing a sense of personal responsibility, self-esteem, sensitivity to the needs of others and being part of a community both within the school and beyond it.

Children will learn that they have a value and a place in this world, allowing them to grow in confidence and learn about others issues concerning their own personal health. PDMU takes place via circle time in Foundation and KS1, and circle time, discussions and activities through KS2.

'PDMU focuses on encouraging each child to become personally, emotionally and socially effective, to lead healthy, safe and fulfilled lives and to become confident, independent and responsible citizens, making informed and responsible choices and decisions throughout their lives.' (NI Curriculum)
